'Notes on the Sublime'

Night Café is pleased to host Field, a sound installation by Gina Kuschke, as part of Notes on the Sublime, an epilogue to the exhibition Takes on the Sublime. Presented for one weekend only, the gallery is transformed into a sound-based extension of Kuschke’s work, blacked out to eliminate visual distractions, creating a singular focus on sound. Six speakers fill the space, consuming it in sound from all angles. Kuschke’s score, written and produced for this installation, parallels the atonal language of her painting practice: unfixed, fluid, and in constant motion. Like her mark-making, the sound flows in shifting directions, varying speeds, and rhythmic punctuations, resisting a singular focal point while unfolding through layered rhythms and shifting intensities.

‘‘The hum of the ground sets the stage for the eternal performance of the mark.

My interruption can now begin.

Notes tear through space and fold into silence Action: Swallowed Mark: Pulsing

The painting is the snake And I am its shedded skin.’’ ‍
